LOCKDOWN BOOGIES (an introduction)

First came the night (in dreams begin responsibilities). Then came the dawn (sun turning round in graceful motion). Now comes the eagerly awaited day. I don't want you to be high and I don't want you to be down. Don't want to tell you no lie. Just want you to be around.

You don't know what's going on. You've been away for far too long and I just want you to be around.

You were the one who told me - ''don't stop to think of words when you do stop, just stop to think of the picture better - and let your mind off yourself in this work'' - and I saw freezing red deserts turn to dark; bound for a star with fiery oceans.

...yet there is no avoiding time, the sea of time, the sea of memory and forgetfulness, the years of promise, gone and unrecoverable, of the land almost allowed to claim its better destiny, only to have the claim jumped by evildoers known all too well, and taken instead and held hostage to the future we must live in now forever.

How ready were any of us to live in the real world, a world that would each year become more like Altamont?

DING DONGS FOR BREAKFAST

''Someday,'' she prophesied, ''there will be computers for this, all you'll have to do's type in just what you're looking for, or even better just talk it in - like that HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey? - and it'll be right back at you with more information that you'd ever want to know.''

She would never say where she came from. She comes in colours everywhere. She combs her hair. She's like a rainbow. Have you seen a lady fairer?

It's so very lonely. You're 100 light years from home.
