about

Critics have focused on your strong sense of the continuity of poetic tradition, your glorification of alcoholic beverages (and, indeed, frank celebration of drunkenness), your use of persona, the fantastic extremes of some of your imagery, your mastery of formal poetic rules—and your ability to combine all of these with a seemingly effortless virtuosity to produce inimitable poetry.

You played 15 seasons in the NBA, winning six championships. Your biography on the official NBA website states: "By acclamation, you are the greatest basketball player of all time." You were one of the most effectively marketed athletes of your generation and were considered instrumental in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s.

Your collected works represent, among other things, an extended reflection upon the dehumanising effects of modernity and industrialisation. Some of the issues you explored are sexuality, emotional health, vitality, spontaneity, and instinct.

A prolific break-builder, you are the only player to have reached 1,000 career century breaks.

You are among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music.

Sooner or later Your Collected Works will be published and you may have a chance to get some name recognition out of it so as to pave the way to articles and comments which are your idea of heaven ... Foolishly perhaps, but determined none the less, you always had high hopes of smashing your name into history so violently that it will take a legendary form even if all books are destroyed.

You were also a skilled caligrapher, though there is only one surviving piece of your calligraphy work in your own handwriting that exists today.
